I have been asked how to make a box and I decide to make a little tutorial about it. It is quite easy and fast way to make a cute little handmade box for little jewellery and tiny objects.
It is not as complicate as it might look and feel in the first try, after few boxes you'll make them eyes closed :)

1. You need pencil, ruler and cardboard. There is a lot pretty cardbord colors available, I just happend to like this brown craft paper. Cut 2 squares, one 0.8-1 cm bigger than the other one
2. like this
3. Fold from the middle
4. like this

5. open

6. fold to opposite side

7. Now there should be cross in the middle. Then fold the corners to the middle
8. Fold all 4 corners to the middle

9. It should look like this now
10. Then fold the corners to the first folded line
11. Now it should look like this
12. Then the last folding, the corners to the closest fold line
2. like this
3. Fold from the middle
4. like this
5. open

6. fold to opposite side

7. Now there should be cross in the middle. Then fold the corners to the middle
8. Fold all 4 corners to the middle
9. It should look like this now
10. Then fold the corners to the first folded line
11. Now it should look like this
12. Then the last folding, the corners to the closest fold lineNote: do these lines in this order so that you don't get mixed. At least for me it is easier to make it always in same order so that I don't mix the lines.
14. See the squre in the middle? It is the bottom/cover of the box. You can mark it at first times to make it clear.

15. Cut until the "bottom" line, but do not cut any further (you'll cut the bottom if you do)
16. Cut the other sides too and it should look like this now.

o brilliant i have never seen that before
well done !!!
thanks Heli!!!!!
What a brilliant tutorial! Thank you! Lucy x
Really lovely. We used to make these using old greeting cards, squared off, but I like the brown paper look too. :D
Just wanted to note that it is also possible to simply fold the "walls" in without cutting slits along the lines. Though I think cutting the lines makes the folds settle in a bit nicer. :)
Great tutorial! Question: How do you ship these without them getting squished?
Aneesah; aa, have to try that without cutting, didn't know. Thanks!
Myrnie; I ship them in bubble mailers. The craft paper is quite strong, but of course if the postmen are cruel with handling it will squueze.
Aww, that is gorgeous! I would love to photolink to this if you didn't mind!
What a wonderful tutorial! I'd love to have you participate in this month's "Make & Tell" at The 6 O'Clock Stitch! So nice to meet you!

this is wonderful, thanks Helis!!
Thank you, Heli, for this origami tutorial! Unfortunately box is small for most of my items but I'll try to do it bigger!
I love it. Thak you very much for sharing it.
lovely box! thanks for sharing and I'll try out.
Wonderful tutorial... Thank you so much for sharing...
Great tutorial!
Like Aneesah, I make these boxes without cutting. Also, I use the same size paper for both top and bottom. To adjust the top to fit, you just don't fold quite to the line on step 10. Fold the corner to about .5 cm below that line and you're good to go!
Also, for Jane_Bo's size problem: whatever paper you use yields a box 1/3 the original paper size. I use an 8.5 inch square to yield a box that nicely fits four of my little chocolate truffles beautifully.
Here's video tutorial for this box plus the lovely insert that divides it into four sections- all using the same sized paper!
